Here is an overview of what to expect in 5-3 Social Studies & Reading for 5-3 & 5-4

Social Studies
  In Fifth grade students will focus on United States history, beginning with review of Regions of the United States, Native Americans of North America, the colonization of America including early European exploration, and the causes of the American Revolution to forming a new government. Students are expected to come to class prepared with their folder, notebook & iPads.  Students will also learn more about using Primary/Secondary sources &  DBQ's (data-based questions).  Please note that ALL LESSONS will be posted in Google Classroom.

Reading                                                                                                                                                                                                                                In Fifth Grade, we will first cover several reading/comprehension strategies such as: 'Text Structure', 'Character Analysis', 'Story Structure', Inferencing' as well as use the R.A.C.E. writing strategy. Our textbook is called, Into-Reading which comes with a Know it Show it workbook. Additionally, students will read a novel, 'HOLES', by Louis Sachar which we will read in Trimester 3. Students are expected to always come to class with both their Reading notebooks & textbooks.  Please note all materials for each story will be posted daily in Google Classroom.
